Black Belt Lean Six Sigma Body of Knowledge

The IASSC Black Belt Lean Six Sigma Body of Knowledge is an assembly of a comprehensive set of topics and subject matters that are intended to be representations of the universally and commonly accepted, minimum competencies and core proficiencies requisite of Lean Six Sigma Black Belts.

This well-established IASSC Standard is diversely recognized as a relevant and practical version of the knowledge expectations of Lean Six Sigma Black Belt. It consists of the primary sections of Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control, which are each broken down into sub-categories consisting of individual subject matter topics.

This respected IASSC Standard is an interwoven element to both IASSC Accreditations and IASSC Certifications. IASSC endeavors to ensure that Lean Six Sigma providers and institutions seeking IASSC Accreditation adequately demonstrated their alignment to the IASSC Lean Six Sigma Body of Knowledge. IASSC Certification Exams are constructed based upon the topics within the IASSC Lean Six Sigma Body of Knowledge. Through proctored examination, candidates are expected to demonstrate that they have an adequate level of competence in the topics defined within the IASSC Lean Six Sigma Body of Knowledge.

Black Belt Lean Six Sigma Body of Knowledge

The IASSC Lean Six Sigma Body of Knowledge™ and IASSC Certification Exams™ target the incorporation of the Bloom’s Taxonomy – Revised (2001) model. IASSC™ aims to define Cognitive level benchmarks for Black Belt, Green Belt and Yellow Belt subject matter items within each corresponding Body of Knowledge. IASSC Certified Black Belt Exams target a cognitive level up to Create. The IASSC Certified Green Belt Exams target a cognitive level up to Evaluate. The IASSC Certified Yellow Belt Exams target a cognitive level up to Analyze. More information pertaining to how IASSC uses Blooms taxonomy can be reviewed here.

Levels of Cognition based on Bloom’s Taxonomy – Revised (2001). These levels are from “Levels of Cognition” (from Bloom’s Taxonomy – Revised, 2001). They are listed in order from the least complex to the most complex.

Remember:
Recall or recognize terms, definitions, facts, ideas, materials, patterns, sequences, methods, principles, etc.

Understand:
Read and understand descriptions, communications, reports, tables, diagrams, directions, regulations, etc.

Apply:
Know when and how to use ideas, procedures, methods, formulas, principles, theories, etc.

Analyze:
Break down information into its constituent parts and recognize their relationship to one another and how they are organized; identify sub-level factors or salient data from a complex scenario.

Evaluate:
Make judgments about the value of proposed ideas, solutions, etc., by comparing the proposal to specific criteria or standards.

Create:
Put parts or elements together in such a way as to reveal a pattern or structure not clearly there before; identify which data or information from a complex set is appropriate to examine further or from which supported conclusions can be drawn.

IASSC Recertification Policy

Recertification is an important part of the Professional Credentialing spectrum. It helps to ensure integrity of standards, is an exhibit of a Professional’s regard for certification best-practices and serves as proof of ongoing Professional competence. In essence, IASSC™ Recertification is simply a form of Professional Certification maintenance that comes with the great benefit of ongoing personal accomplishment, while demonstrating to employers and peers proof of a maintained knowledge and skill based proficiency as an active Lean Six Sigma Practitioner.

The International Association for Six Sigma Certification™ perpetually and indefinitely recognizes all IASSC Certified Professionals. As of March 1, 2017 IASSC introduced a Certification Classification System that will further classify  Certifications by a Status in our support of and alignment to Professional Credentialing Best Practices. A Current status is granted to IASSC Certifications for a period of three years from the time the Professional has received the Certification. After that time, an Elapsed status will be applied to the Certification unless the Professional has successfully Re-certified.
